Over the last 11 years, I (Tian Wigmore) have had the privilege of serving as a touring guitarist and backing vocalist for many of Canada’s best artists including Big Sugar, The Trews, Tim Chaisson, In Flight Safety, and Andy Brown. Over this time, I have learned so much from these incredible musicians. But after 11 years as a side man, something was missing. I needed a platform of my own. A place to vocalize my personal experiences. Not to compete with the career that I had already established, but to compliment it. As a result, I began to write and record an EP, and “Warhorses” was born.
The word “Warhorses” embodies power, relentlessness, determination, and hope. And although these are all positive things, the word still manages to project an overall darkness. This is how I would describe the 6 songs that are on this self-titled EP. Each one tends to reflect on the darker side of human nature and the hardships faced in day to day life; but in the end, they are framed with a sense of hope and optimism.
Musically, Warhorses is made up of 4 distinct artistic forces. Myself (Guitar/Vocals), Chris Corrigan (Guitar/Producer), Remi Arsenault (Bass), and Nat Lamoureux (Drums). The result is an authoritative brand of “Hard-Edged” folk music that I am really excited to share.
This musical endeavour has been a fulfilling and eye-opening one already. The recording process was carried out primarily in a bedroom studio, we used rice and guitar cases for percussion, and in the end, the album sounds incredible. Even as I re-read this “bio”, I realize that it is not conventional by any means, and that is OK by me. “Warhorses” is a chance for me to do things how I want to do them, say what I need to say, and share it all with the world. I hope you enjoy it.
